What practices should I be aware of in our Industry?
MMA will teach the skills and legitimate practices of the Acting Art. We do not use or solicit Managerial Contracts, Portfolios or Magazines. These are sometimes pushed by profit motivated companies in our Business at exorbitant prices. These “extras” are not required or even expected by casting professionals or Agencies in our industry.
We are not a Photography Studio or Modeling Agency. We do not require Photos or Headshots as a prerequisite for a new student, employ recruiters, or require a purchase of any kind for auditions that are conducted at the studio. Enrollment in MMA courses or any other type of payment to MMA is not a requirement to participate in auditions or be hired for projects.
Do I Have to Produce A Demo with MMA?
At the conclusion of the Voice Over Course, MMA can produce a Demo for any Student, in conjunction with our Emmy Award winning Studio, but it is not required. It is a decision each Student can make with no pressure from us. For more information, see our Page on Demos.
Don't you have to be young and beautiful to work?
Many people get commercials confused with modeling. In commercials, all ages and types are needed. Our successful graduates have ranged from darling four-year olds to seniors in their 80's. Most new students are people who feel good about themselves, and have always had the desire to explore some area of performing. Gordon Jump did not begin an acting career until his late 30's and there are many who have started later than that.
What kind of guarantees or placement promises do you make?
No legitimate school will promise a job as a result of their training. Learning to act is an art, and unlike beauty colleges or computer repair courses, no one is ever "placed" in a job. In much the same way, a music teacher trains someone to play the piano, MMA trains students to audition for work in commercials, film and voice-over. Although we do "Showcase" (audition) our students in front of two SAG agents, there is no guarantee of being chosen, ……but the opportunity is there….and many of our students are "picked up" by an Agency. We also provide much guidance in the audition process and teach how to successfully audition for work.. Success comes after training and persistence.
How is Gordon Jump involved?
Gordon was a syllabus consultant for MMA and highly endorsed its Mission and its Staff.
